A Message from Pastor Larry –  January 2008

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, "Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage." — Matthew 2:1-2, NRSV

Dear Saints:

In January we observe the season of Epiphany, which celebrates the light of Christ’s revelation to the Gentiles.

In Matthew’s Gospel this is portrayed in the story of the Visit of the Wise Men, Magi from the East who saw the miracle star that led them to the small town of Bethlehem and to the Savior.

2007 was a good year, and as we begin this new year together my prayer for you, your family, and for all of us at St. Matthew, is that, as were the Magi of old, you will be led to the perfect light of Christ and experience the blessing of his holy presence in your life.

O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.

Chorus of We Three Kings of Orient Are
Words and Music: John H. Hopkins, Jr., 1857.

And now, as Tiny Tim says in Charles Dickens classic tale, A Christmas Carol, "God bless us, every one!"
