The
Second Annual Confirmation Dinner was a success. A special thank-you
goes to Reverend Gerald Troutman for suggesting this event.
The
Confirmation Class from last year: Clara Vargas, her friend from
Columbus High School, Courtney Marcurn, Brad Young, Sam Rollinson,
Kelli Nelson, and Danny Christian assisted in serving the
Confirmation Class and their families.
Brad
Young played the piano as families arrived. He was terrific. Brad is
a very talented young man. I sincerely thank him for his wonderful work.
Pastor
Peter Samuelson started the dinner with a gracious prayer. The
Choir, directed by Patricia Bonaker, and our organist, Sandra
Nearhoof were great. The gift of song is a wonderful gift.
The
Confirmation Class of 2003 performed a skit. It was their gift to
this year's class. Michelle Rollinson, Brittney Carver, Jessica
Carver, Patrick Dietz, Albert VanHousen, and Ryan Jackson made me so
proud. They were absolutely fantastic. Brad Young took his Dad's
movie camera and filmed their performance.
Each
confirmation student selected a verse from the Bible which best
explained their faith and what it means to them. Samuel Flohr, David
Allen, Sarah Catherine Johnson, Brandon Hoag, and Scott Sieg gave us
an insight into their hearts. Fred Eysei had a scripted prayer for
presentation to each member of the class. They were most appreciative.
Charlotte
DuPriest was indispensable in helping me organize the dinner. A big
thank-you goes to Charlotte. The program would not have gone off as
well as it did, without the sound system Roger Loney set up for us.
Roger and I went over the spellings of Baptism and Baptized. I love
when I learn something. Troop 2, BSA set up chairs and tables. Brad
Young, Sam Rollinson, Brandon Hoag, and Michelle Rollinson helped
clean up and put back tables and chairs.
A
big thank-you goes to Jerry Putnam for coming early to service and
taking pictures of the Confirmation Class prior to the 10:30 service.
He and Barbara have small children. I remember getting ready for
church in the mornings when mine were little. I sincerely appreciate
his gift of taking excellent pictures.
Dave
Bonaker and Matt Bonaker were a perfect duo in their song to the
Confirmation Class and their families. Linnea Grosse always comes
through by helping to make any event special. Thank you to the
Education Committee for the reception and the cakes to honor the
Confirmation Class. To all those who brought in sweets and
sandwiches, thank you. Our church membership has always been generous.
To
have the Confirmation on Palm Sunday, which would have been Van
Grosse's birthday, was indeed special. He was so very helpful in
answering all the Biblical questions I had. Just being a good friend,
I surely miss him.
A
SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO MRS. THORNE who was our Church Secretary. She
was most helpful in everything I asked from her.
News
Network Editor's Note:
I look forward to Michele 's narratives in the News Network! I have
enjoyed keeping up with the progress of the conformants. We at Saint
Matthew owe a BIG DEBT of GRATITUDE to Michele for teaching
Confirmation these past three years. Please give her a "pat on
the back" when you see her. THANKS MICHELE for continuing to
teach our "Magnificent" conformants. |
