Call
Process Summary
Note:
The Call Process is recorded in reverse order beginning in May 2002
at the bottom of the page and ends with the Final Update as the last
entry at the top of the page.
Final
Update: Pastor
Barksdale installed on March 16th as our new Pastor. A special
thanks to the Call Committee of Ken Bingemann, Mike Bonaker, Laurie
Johnson; Andrea Marsh, Carla Stickles, and Bob Young and to the
Church Council for their untiring work during the
Call Process.
March
2003 Update: Pastor
Barksdale has accepted our call. Please click here
to view Pastor Samuelson's
announcement
and Farewell Message. We expect Pastor Barksdale to join us by the
9th of March and his installation on the 16th of March.
February
2003 Update: In
the Congregational Meeting held on January 12th, the congregation
voted to issue a call to Pastor J. Lawrence Barksdale IV.
Many
members of the congregation met and queried Pastor Barksdale on the
Wednesday prior to this Congregational Meeting. For those members who
were not able to attend the Wednesday sessions, Council President Joe
Ritch summarized what had occurred and afforded the opportunity for
further discussion. Mike Bonaker and Bob Young provided additional
information from the perspective of the Call Committee while Steve
Phillips shared with the congregation the actions taken by Council.
While
the Call vote was being tallied, Fred Wadsworth explained the line
items in the proposed compensation package recommended by Council. He
noted that the proposal followed synod guidelines and was within the
forecasted church budget. The congregation voted to approve the
compensation package as presented.
Thanks
to all who attended and asked the thoughtful questions at these
meetings. Thanks also to the Call Committee and Council for their
hard work which has brought us to this critical phase in the Call process.
Where
do we stand now in the Call process? Our Council will prepare and
forward to Synod a formal Letter of Call. In turn, Synod will contact
Pastor Barksdale who then has 30 days to respond. If Pastor Barksdale
accepts the Call, he must provide a notice (normally 30 day) to his
current congregation.
At
this point, your continued prayers are needed to complete the Call process.
January
2003 Update: On
Sunday, January 12, 2003, there will be a Congregational Meeting
following the 10:30 a.m. service to consider issuing a call to Pastor
J. Lawrence Barksdale. Please plan to attend this important meeting.
December
2002 Update: The
Call Committee has recommended the prospective pastor to
Council and the Council has interviewed the candidate.
November
2002 Update: The
Call Committee has interviewed a prospective candidate and
discussions are underway
October
2002 Update: The
Call Committee has received more names from Synod and they are in
the process of considering the information provided.
September
2002 Update: Ken
Bingemann announced at the September
1st
Worship Service that the Call Committee had reviewed
the qualifications
of the
three candidates
provided by the synod (July
Update, below) and determined that
they did not fit our profile. The Call Committee is awaiting more
names from Synod at this point.
August
2002 Update: There
is no new news from the Call Committee, as they are in the
confidential phase of their work. We do know they have received names
from Synod (July Update,
below) and they are in the process of "acting" on that information.
Please
continue to pray for the Call Committee, prospective pastors, and
our congregation during this process.
July
2002 Update: Ken
Bingemann announced at the July 7th Worship Service that the Call
Committee had received three names of prospective pastors. He noted
that the
Call process was
still in the confidentiality
phase and he could not provide any other details.
June
2002 Update: The
Call Committee continues to wait on the synod during this period. We
pray they will have success in finding prospective pastors willing to
serve at St. Matthew. Again, this is confidential phase of the call
process, and we ask for your indulgence and prayers during this phase.
May
2002 Update: We
met on April 24th with the Bishop Warren, Pastor Sue, and the Council.
Josh
Lawton showed the CD he put together for prospective pastors. It
will be included in the Mission Profile. The whole "package"
received Synod "blessings" and they will begin to search
for potential pastors.
This
process will take eight to ten weeks and at that time, we will begin
the "screening" process. Please include this matter in your
prayers daily. Pray that the synod will find the best person for St.
Matthew and that this person will be open to the opportunity here.
This
is the period when what the Call Committee is doing must be kept
confidential. Thank you for understanding that we cannot share names
or information about potential candidates. We will continue to share
any non-confidential information about our progress.
